Wow. I've been out of it for almost 2 days now, sick with what I guess you might call a 48 hour flu. The worst part of it is that I took the week off work in order to get some writing and stuff around the house done. I was able to get some writing in, but not enough. At least I've got the remainder of today and the weekend.

Here's the latest batch of interesting stuff I came across.

Mystery of the Off-Center Martian Ice Cap
When summer hits the south pole on Mars, only half the ice on the pole melts. This leaves behind a strangely off-center chunk of water-and-carbon-dioxide ice, as you can see in this composite satellite image of the pole in summer.

Astronomers were checking out a star very similar to ours located about 300 light years away, in the constellation Ares, and they noticed it was surrounded by a lot of dust. Way more dust than is in our solar system.

Study Suggests It Rained on Ancient Mars
Scientists studying the Martian landscape said yes, a river ran through it — and not just one. The ancient red planet also seems to have experienced rain, they say.
