9780812575484_ci_stdTor's Free E-book giveaway promotion continues. This week's free e-book is "Through Wolf's Eyes" by Jane Lindskold.

Ms. Lindskold is an unknown for me. I've not read any of her work, nor had I even heard of her until now. But that's one of the great things about Tor's promotion: ignorant people like myself are getting exposed to authors whose work is no doubt exciting and entertaining.

First off, I like the cover; if that isn't a wolf than I'm not much of an animal lover. Already, from looking at her home page and the cover of Through Wolf's Eyes, I'm seeing a common theme.

Ms. Lindskold confirms as much:

Wolves have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book has long been one of my favorite books. When I decided to write an "imaginary world" fantasy novel, I decided to build it around both wolves and the motif of the feral child. Then I asked myself, "But why would my feral child encounter humans at all?" The answer came in the form of a complex plot having to do with succession to the highly contested throne of a small, embattled kingdom.

Robin Hobb also made great use of a wolf in The Farseer Trilogy, one of my all time favorite series. I'm therefore eager to jump into Through Wolf's Eyes. Now I just need to clear some space in my reading list. All of these Tor Free E-books are getting a little overwhelming. I've no doubt I'll have more than enough to read for the remainder of the year by the time it's over.

If you'd like to read more about Lindskold, check out her web site. She also wrote a recent article (10/21/2008) for Tor about "systemized magic".
